Housing Insurance

Modified on Mon, 13 Apr at 9:43 AM

French regulations stipulate that all tenants obtain housing insurance covering common risks (civil responsibility, fire, flood, theft, etc.). You cannot obtain the keys to your apartment if you do not provide a proof of housing insurance.

There are several options to subscribe for this type of housing insurance, we suggest a few below. It is your responsibility to enquire and subscribe to the insurance policy that suits your accommodation and your lifestyle.

Caution: to be acceptable, your housing insurance attestation must bear

- the exact address of the insured place,

- the starting and ending date of the contract.

1. Your bank. You may obtain housing insurance through your bank (sometimes the first year is offered by the bank when you open your account).

2. ESSEC partner Gritchen Insurance. Click here for more details.

In partnership with ESSEC, Gritchen Assurances offers specific insurance solutions aimed at French and foreign students throughout their study period.

Gritchen has negotiated for ESSEC students a one-year multiple stay contract with an excellent guarantee / tariff ratio. Since 01/06/2020, this contract has been upgraded by covering epidemic risk and online consultation.

4. Or through insurance companies such as:

GMF Assurances – Parvis de la Préfecture – 95000 Cergy  - Tel. : 01 30 38 22 66

Macif - agence Cergy. 1 Place des Cerclades - 95000 Cergy - Tel. : 08.20.06.00.61.

Please note: foreign students who renew their French residence permit must provide proof of housing insurance. So, please plan ahead.

Furthermore, even if you do not pay any rent, this type of insurance protects you in case you cause a damage to your place of accommodation. In lack of it, you may remain liable for any damage you have caused.
