International students currently enrolled at a French international school abroad accredited by the Agency for French Education Abroad (Agence pour l'enseignement français à l'étranger, AEFE) are eligible to apply for the France Excellence Major scholarship.
France Excellence Major scholarship
France Excellence Major scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence to international A-level graduates from the network of French secondary schools worldwide, enabling them to pursue higher education in France. This scheme, co-funded by the AEFE and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, forms part of cultural diplomacy and contributes to the global influence of French higher education.
These France Excellence Major scholarships are granted to international students throughout their five years of study in France (corresponding to the time required to obtain a Master’s degree or equivalent).
Costs covered by the scholarship:
All France Excellence Major scholarship holders are automatically enrolled in the supplementary health insurance scheme offered by Campus France, which supplements the reimbursement of healthcare costs.
Furthermore, depending on family circumstances, different levels of grants are available:
- the social security grant (additional healthcare cover),
- the France Excellence Major grant at rate 1 (monthly allowance of €280 per month),
- the France Excellence Major grant at rate 2 (monthly allowance of €860 per month).
Scholarship holders at rates 1 or 2 are eligible for specific additional benefits (coverage of return travel costs, booking of CROUS university accommodation, etc.).
Application requirements:
- Not hold French nationality,
- Be in the final year of secondary school/Terminale at an accredited French educational establishment abroad,
- Have achieved excellent academic results,
- Have a study plan within a French higher education institution and within a course leading to a state-recognised qualification,
- Be keen to undertake a demanding course of study immediately after obtaining the baccalauréat,
- Submit course choices via Parcoursup or through the specific procedures of certain institutions (choices must be identical to those made in the France Excellence Major scholarship application),
- Demonstrate genuine motivation and the ability to adapt to life in France.
The application file of the student shortlisted by their institution must be submitted online via the dedicated application so that it can then be reviewed by the relevant departments.
To be selected, a candidate must have get a mention Très Bien to the French baccalauréat and be admitted to a French higher education programme.
Application submission and timetable:
- February: Online applications open on the ‘Cascade’ platform
- March: Deadline for online applications
- June: Acceptance or withdrawal of the scholarship via the ‘Cascade’ platform.
