I plan to rent a private place outside ESSEC residences (Alegessec), what do I need?

In case you'd like to rent a private place, outside ESSEC residences you should be aware of the following:

  • you'll be required to have a guarantor in France. This is not easy for a non French person. See in attachment the Garantme Flyer that might be a solution.
  • you'll be required to provide evidence of housing insurance (see article in our FAQ on that subject) before you can get the keys of your apartment
  • you should ask whether or not the apartment is furnished
  • you should ask what is included in the rent (utilities, residence tax, telephone line, etc)
  • you should plan to pay one or two extra months when you move in. This is kept as a guarantee and should be refunded when you leave provided that your place is in impeccable condition.
  • you should plan to pay agency fees if you used an agency's services.
  • you should try to avoid to pay in cash.
  • you should visit the place before you move in.
  • you should budget any kind of additional cost (transportation, commuting time, etc.)

This list is not exhaustive.
