Origin of the Georges Besse Foundation

Georges Besse, from a modest background, pursued brilliant studies that led him to the École Polytechnique and then to the Corps des Mines (the French Mining Engineering Corps). His remarkable career led him to head some of France's largest companies.

On November 17, 1986, Georges Besse was assassinated by a terrorist group.

In March 1987, at the instigation of André Giraud—then Minister of Defense—and at the initiative of the founding members, the Georges Besse Foundation was created under the auspices of the Fondation de France.

Its mission is to help outstanding science students facing serious financial difficulties to complete their engineering studies.

It aims to help shape them into future leaders like Georges Besse.
