Fondation Palladio scholarships

The Fondation Palladio fellowships support doctoral research projects (preparation and/or defence of a thesis) and postdoctoral research. The research must take place during the current academic year at a public or private non-profit higher education institution or a consular institution.

The Palladio Foundation’s scholarship programme aims to assist and support the younger generation (doctoral and postdoctoral students, both French and international), by providing them with the means to carry out their research in fields directly related to the property sector and urban development. This project must be designed under the sponsorship of a French and/or foreign higher education and research institution and may receive support from a company in the sector.

The Palladio Foundation goes beyond financial support and offers award winners mentoring from a professional mentor representing the Scholarship Committee or one of its founders and patrons.

Costs covered by the scholarship:

For example, in 2026, the top award is €15,000 per year, renewable for up to three years. Eight further grants of €10,000 each are also awarded.

Application requirements:

Applications are open to:

  • Any French national who has completed a Master’s degree and wishes to begin or continue a PhD in France or within the European Union,
  • Any French national who has completed a PhD or is in the process of obtaining one and wishes to undertake postdoctoral research in France or within the European Union,
  • Any foreign national holding a Master’s degree wishing to commence or continue a PhD or postdoctoral research in France.

As the Palladio Scholarships support doctoral research projects (preparation and/or defence of a PhD thesis) and postdoctoral research, the application must relate to the current academic year at a public or private non-profit higher education institution or a consular institution.

Application submission and timetable:

An application must include:

  • A resume (maximum 1 page),
  • A detailed description of your project as a whole (maximum 4 pages),
  • A letter of support from the referee(s) endorsing your project,
  • Your most recent degree certificate and transcript,
  • Proof of identity,
  • Documentation regarding your current financial resources (payslips, employment contract, sworn statement of financial support from a third party, etc.),
  • A passport-sized photograph.

Research projects submitted by PhD and postdoctoral students should generally relate to the city and its contemporary challenges (technical, climatic, urban, governance-related, etc.), highlighting the direct or indirect consequences of the climate crisis.

The work submitted may cover any academic discipline: geography, history, political science, engineering, economics, ecology, architecture, law, finance, management, sociology, urban planning, etc.

March: Closing date for applications

June: Interviews with candidates shortlisted in the first selection phase

July: Announcement of the winners by the Palladio Foundation’s Executive Committee
