Mobility to Germany: what scholarships are available?

Modified on Tue, 21 Apr at 5:39 PM

Whether you are going abroad as part of a university exchange programme or an internship, and whether or not you plan to work alongside your academic activity, you may be eligible for grants to fund your stay in Germany.

Scholarships granted by the French government

If you are travelling as part of an exchange programme, and if your parents live in France, we suggest you look into financial aid options available from the conseil départemental, the conseil régional or the mairie of your parents’ main place of residence.

These grants might not cover the entire duration of your stay or all destinations, but they may be useful.

Please note that some regions and/or departments do not offer this type of mobility grant and/or that the amount of the financial aid available varies from one department or region to another.

For more information, please contact your conseil départemental or your conseil régional directly.

You are allowed to combine several grants when travelling abroad: don’t hesitate to do your own researches!

Scholarships granted by the European Union

The ERASMUS+ mobility grant is for students who are going to study abroad or undertaking a double degree in at an German institution that is one of ESSEC’s partners.

If you are undertaking an internship in Germany for at least 60 days, you are eligible for an ERASMUS+ grant.

Scholarships granted by the Franco-German Youth Office (OFAJ/DFJW)

The Franco-German Youth Office (OFAJ) offer several grants to promote exchanges between young people from France and Germany and, in this case, to enable French students to gain professional experience in Germany.

PRAXES Programme

The aim of the PRAXES programme is to enable people from all backgrounds (students currently in training (bachelor’s, master’s, BTS, etc.), students taking a gap year or nearing the end of their studies, jobseekers, young professionals with a few years’ work experience, etc.) to undertake an internship in Germany. This programme is also open to people looking to change their career path.

A grant is also available for ‘young people with fewer opportunities’, in accordance with the criteria defined by the OFAJ/DFJW.

The placement must be found by the candidate themselves. Tools to assist with the search for a placement are available on the DFJW website.

Costs covered by the scholarship:

As your training organisation, the OFAJ will provide a tripartite placement agreement, will take out supplementary insurance for the applicant and will ensure academic support during the internship.

If you apply for it, the PRAXES programme grant amounts to €500, regardless of the duration of the internship. It is paid in a single instalment, two months after the start of the internship. It can be combined with other financial support such as ERASMUS+.

Application requirements:

The PRAXES programme is open to:

  • people from all backgrounds, regardless of their educational history or level of study,
  • people aged between 18 and 35,
  • people residing in France, who do not necessarily need to be French nationals.

Application submission and timetable:

  • Complete the application form,
  • A login will then be sent to you to access your personal account on the PRAXES@IN platform within the following week,
  • Once your host organisation has given its approval for the internship, complete all the required information on the PRAXES@IN platform as soon as possible (and no later than 1.5 months before the start of your internship),
  • If you are applying for a grant, please check beforehand that you fall into the category of young people with fewer opportunities’ by completing the declaration of special needs, which must be filled in and submitted on the PRAXES@IN platform after you have entered the information relating to the placement.
