Rules related to the birth certificate for the social security application


Apostille:


Depending on the country of origin, the birth certificate may require an apostille or legalization and it must be issued less than a year ago.


To obtain the apostille before you arrive in France: Please contact the French embassy or consulate in your country.


To obtain the apostille after your arrival in France: Please contact your embassy or consulate in Paris.


There are however some countries that do not need to be dated less than a year, here's the list:


Translation:


No translation made outside France will be accepted. It is not necessary to include a translation in French, except for the following languages:


  • Marathi and Tamoul
  • Burmese
  • Bengali
  • Nepalese


For the birth certificate issued in these languages, you must include a French translation made by a certified translator sworn before a French Court of Appeal. Translations provided by your embassy or consulate will be accepted.
